The Ambassador Programme

Every dive tells a story.

Every image becomes part of something bigger. As an Ocean Ambassador you help document our oceans, inspire others and contribute to a growing archive that will benefit future generations.

Why become an ambassador

This is not a programme you register for.

It is a shared undertaking: to record our changing oceans while there is still time, with curiosity rather than commission, and to hand that record on to the people who come next.

We are not a commercial dive company, and we do not take on assignments. Our work is driven by genuine passion, knowledge and a deep interest in what lies beneath the surface — and by a desire to share that world with others. Everything we do is carried out on our own time and without financial compensation.

Community

An international network with one shared subject.

Our members live in different countries and arrive from different disciplines. Everyone contributes their own experience, and everyone learns from someone else.

Divers

Eyes below the surface, season after season.

Underwater photographers

Turning a moment into a lasting record.

Filmmakers

Giving the ocean a language people feel.

Marine scientists

Framing what we look for, and why it matters.

Educators

Carrying what we see into classrooms and lecture halls.

Storytellers & advocates

Making distant water feel close to home.

Personal development

Becoming better together.

Ambassadors grow through practice and through each other. There is no ranking and no competition — the goal is simply that everyone leaves each season more capable than they arrived.

  • ·Workshops in technique, imaging and documentation method
  • ·Field expeditions where practice replaces theory
  • ·Mentoring between experienced and newer ambassadors
  • ·Collaboration across disciplines on shared projects
  • ·Open knowledge sharing — nothing is kept to oneself
  • ·Practical experience, logged dive after dive

Ocean Archive

A living archive, not a hard drive.

Ocean Archive preserves underwater photography, film, observations, historical material and marine knowledge — kept accessible for research, education and everyone who comes after us.

Every upload becomes another piece of the ocean's history. Contributing material is entirely voluntary — never a requirement of membership. Each member decides freely what, if anything, they wish to share, and always retains the copyright to their own work.

Membership tiers

Not a member

Invited Guest

Invited to a specific expedition or activity. A first shared dive, and a chance to meet the community.

What you get

We cannot promise every opportunity to every ambassador. What we can promise is access to a growing community where shared knowledge, resources and collaboration create opportunities that rarely exist alone.

  • ·Take part in expeditions and activities
  • ·Vote at the Annual Meeting and submit motions
  • ·Propose candidates for membership
  • ·A personal @oceanambassadors.club email address
  • ·Access to the Association's members' platform
  • ·Benefits arising from arrangements with partners

Associated Members take part in the expeditions and activities they are invited to. Email address, platform access and partner benefits may be granted by the Board.

What we ask of you

Being an Ocean Ambassador is built on trust. We ask every ambassador to respect the ocean, support fellow ambassadors, contribute when possible and represent our shared mission with integrity.

  • ·Keep valid insurance that meets the Board's minimum requirements
  • ·Pay the annual fee no later than the date of the Annual Meeting
  • ·Contribute as a diver, documentarian or operational support
  • ·Follow the safety standards in Appendix A and any third-party requirements
  • ·Care for the Association's values, purpose and discretion
  • ·Act in line with the Member Code of Conduct (Appendix B)

Recognition

Every contribution matters.

Ambassadors are credited by name wherever their work is used — in the archive, in publications and in the field. Credit is not a formality; it is how a collective record keeps track of the people who built it.

A single image, film or observation may look small on its own. In the archive it becomes part of something much larger than itself.

How you join

  1. 01

A Full Member proposes someone to the Board, with a few words about why.

  2. 02

The candidate is invited along — as an Invited Guest or Candidate Member.

  3. 03

The candidacy runs for as long as it takes to get to know each other properly.

  4. 04

The Board confirms Full Membership. All membership decisions rest with the Board.

The annual fee is set by the Annual Meeting. Full details are available in the members-only Statutes.

No one can document the entire ocean.

But together we can create one of the world's most valuable visual archives of life beneath the surface.
