Midocean's skippers and deck crew are maritime professionals. They handle navigation, anchoring and surface operations so our volunteers can concentrate on the mission.
Boats
No boats of our own — and that is by design.
Ocean Ambassadors Club is a volunteer association, not a vessel operator or commercial dive company. We do not take on assignments. Our work is driven by genuine passion, knowledge and a deep interest in what lies beneath the surface. We charter boats through Midocean and rely on their professional crew to get us safely to the sites we want to document.
Why we charter
Owning and operating a boat is a full-time commitment. Insurance, maintenance, certifications and crewing would pull focus and resources away from what the club exists to do: observe, document and inspire.
By chartering through Midocean, we get access to well-maintained vessels and experienced professional crew without the burden of ownership. It also means we can scale up or down depending on the expedition — a small boat for a local survey, a larger vessel for a weekend expedition.
The club's volunteers are not maritime professionals. We do not take on vessel operation, navigation or commercial crew duties. Those responsibilities belong to Midocean's qualified crew.
Our boat partner
Midocean supplies the boats and the professional crew for our expeditions. Their skippers know the waters we work in, and their deck crew handle the logistics that let our members focus on diving and documentation.
All vessel-related decisions on an expedition — route, anchoring, weather calls, boarding and safety on board — rest with Midocean's crew, not with club members.
What this means for our expeditions
No club-owned vessels
The Association does not own, operate or maintain boats. Chartering through a trusted partner keeps costs predictable and safety standards high.
Focus on documentation
Our members are not professional boat operators. We leave vessel handling to the experts while we observe, document and inspire.
Scalable expeditions
From small local surveys to multi-day weekends, we charter the right vessel for the activity — always with a qualified crew.
How it works on the water

Plan
The Board plans the expedition, decides the needed vessel type and drafts the safety plan.

Charter
Midocean provides a suitable boat with a licensed crew for the dates and area of operation.

Brief
All participants receive a safety and operational briefing before departure, including roles on board.
- 04
Document
Members dive, film, photograph and log observations while the crew keeps the vessel and surface safe.
Safety first
Every expedition follows the safety standards in Appendix A of the Statutes. Diving and surface support are carried out by club volunteers, but the vessel itself and its operation are the responsibility of Midocean's professional crew. Members follow the crew's instructions on board at all times.
