Clubhouse
Our home port is Lysekil.
Ocean Ambassadors Club has its base in the southern harbour of Lysekil, Sweden. Our members come from many countries, but this is where we plan, prepare, develop our documentation technique and return to share what we have seen.
A local base for a global community
We are a Swedish non-profit association with members spread across the world. Some live in Sweden, others join expeditions from abroad. What connects us is not a postcode — it is the purpose we share.
We are not a commercial dive company, and we do not take on assignments. Our work is driven by genuine passion, knowledge and a deep interest in what lies beneath the surface — and by a desire to share that world with others. Everything we do is carried out on our own time and without financial compensation.
The clubhouse in the southern harbour of Lysekil is the practical heart of that community. It is where we meet before an expedition, debrief after one, store and maintain gear, develop our documentation technique, and plan the next season of observation and documentation.
We do not own boats. When we head out, we charter vessels through Midocean and their professional crew. The clubhouse is where land-based preparation happens, so that the time on the water can be spent on what we do best: observing, documenting and inspiring.
About the location
Lysekil, Sweden
Lysekil lies where the Skagerrak meets the Bohuslän archipelago — cold, clear water, rich marine life and a long tradition of people working on and under the sea. The southern harbour is a natural home for a club dedicated to exploring and documenting the underwater world.
From here we reach eelgrass meadows, wrecks, rocky reefs and the open water beyond the islands. It is a starting point, not a boundary.
What the clubhouse is for
Technique & gear
A place to test, maintain and prepare equipment. We experiment with cameras, housings, lights and dive kit to keep developing how we document the underwater world.
Documentation space
Between expeditions, members gather to review footage, log observations and try new documentation workflows. It is where raw material becomes useful records that members may choose, voluntarily, to share with Ocean Archive.
Harbour access
Located in the southern harbour of Lysekil, the clubhouse is close to the water and to the vessels we charter through Midocean for our activities.
Developing documentation possibilities
The clubhouse is where we test new ways to document the underwater world. Members experiment with camera setups, lighting, housings and logging workflows in a controlled environment before taking them into the field.
By sharing knowledge and trying different techniques, we improve the quality and usefulness of the material we collect. Members are free to contribute their material to Ocean Archive, where researchers, educators and the public can access it — a voluntary choice, never an obligation.
